My fascination with mobile app development began with the iPhone 3GS when I owned one in college. In my senior year, I lead a team that built a mobile app for The Brookfield Zoo in Chicago where I gained valuable experience in the entire development process.
After graduating, I joined Vokal Interactive, where I honed my skills by crafting apps for a diverse clientele. This experience fueled my passion for mobile development, prompting me to expand my knowledge to include Android and even Windows Phone (in its heyday). Today, I not only develop apps but also mentor engineers, helping them reach their full potential.
It all started with a passion project from college.
My first role as engineering manager where I had the privilege of leading a talented team of 23 engineers in delivering and maintaining a suite of high-quality mobile applications.
I fostered a collaborative environment that ensured seamless interaction between engineering, product, and design teams. This focus on collaboration was instrumental in achieving adherence to the product vision and design direction.
In addition to leading the development process, I actively troubleshooted and resolved critical production issues specific to the Xamarin application, maintaining optimal application performance. Furthermore, I kept senior leadership apprised of project progress through clear and concise weekly updates, promoting transparency and ensuring project alignment.

I significantly improved the stability of our iOS and Android apps by implementing the latest mobile architectural patterns. This resulted in a dramatic boost in the number of sessions users could have without the app crashing. I also played a key role in our backend development using Python and Thrift, making sure the apps functioned flawlessly and performed at their best.
Lastly, I streamlined the testing process by creating and maintaining an automated UI testing suite in Python. This cut the amount of time engineers spent on pre-release testing by half.
This was my first breakthrough into the health tech sector as a Principal engineer. I had a lot of challenges that made me grow tremendously.

Starting as a Mobile Architect and working my way to Senior Android Manager, I worked closely with design and API teams where we delivered seamless functionality and optimized features for a fantastic user experience. I also empowered my mobile engineering team through leadership and guidance. By fostering professional growth, I ensured a unified architecture across projects, maximizing efficiency.
I also evaluated and integrated third-party SDKs, resulting in significant performance enhancements and an even better user experience for our applications in production.

At my time at All State, they created the Connected Car R&D department where I spent 2 years at. Our team was in charge of developing SDKs used by the Drivewise app. These SDKs leverage advanced algorithms to determine driving state and optimize data collection. This enables the app to analyze driving behaviors like harsh braking and speeding.
The R&D team was a perfect fit for my creative spark. Here, I played a key role in brainstorming unique features and functionalities for the SDKs, making them even powerful.
Leading the Charge: From Single Platform to Overseeing Both iOS and Android
My mobile development journey began with building the iOS app from scratch. This ignited a passion for Android development, prompting me to learn the ropes and quickly become the sole owner of both apps! This experience transformed me into a well-rounded mobile developer, capable of handling both major platforms. Beyond coding, I actively partnered with product management, prioritizing features, evaluating feasibility, and contributing to the long-term roadmap. To further empower the team, I created insightful monthly analytics reports. These data-driven insights became a valuable tool, helping us continuously improve the user experience and elevate our mobile development proficiency.

The booming Chicago startup scene provided a dynamic environment where I could contribute to projects like Total Attorneys, AirRun, Akoo, dScout, and more. This experience wasn't just about code – it was about the entire software development lifecycle. I learned the ropes of APIs, SDKs, and most importantly, the important of teamwork.
